The Sundarayya
Vignana Kendram was commissioned in the year 1988. It is managed
by a registered Non-Profit-Trust.
It is maintained by Public Donations, which are exempted from
income-tax under Section 80 G of Indian Income Tax Act. While the land
was donated by the Government of Andhra Pradesh, the existing building
was constructed with the contributed by the public in the form of
donations.
The Trust started construction of a New Library, Culture and Research
Centre at Gachibowli, spread over four acres of land which is expected
to be opened fully for public use by November 2009.
The old Sundarayya Vignana Kendram at Bagh Lingampally consists of a
Public Reading Room, a Research Library, a small Seminar Room with 150
seats, a 450 seat centrally cooled Auditorium and Rooms for Research
Scholars. We are on a mission of collecting and preserving the legacy
of print culture; revival of local libraries and creation of digital
images for printed materials in all South Indian languages.
The new Library, Culture and Research Centre at Gachibowli will house
the basic archival collections and reference library along with the
Digital book databases. The new Sundarayya Vignana Kendram has a state
of the art air-conditioned 250 seats Conference Hall, 60 seats Board
Room, Painting Exhibition Gallery, Sodhana – Koratala Memorial Research
Center, Nimmagadda SVK Digitalization Center and a Book
Restoration section. It has a massive Open Plaza along with an
Amphitheatre.
As part of the first phase of the
activities, the Sundarayya Vignana
Kendram has started a specialized Research Library. It has a rich
collection of rare books, journals, newspapers, reports, pamphlets,
manuscripts, private papers, etc., in different languages. The
collection is particularly rich in Urdu, Telugu and English language
material throwing light on the socio-cultural, economic and political
histories and popular movements of all types of the 12th through 20th
centuries. The entire collection of 250,000 printed books, journals and
manuscripts in Telugu, Urdu and English languages are now re-relocated
in the new center at Gachibowli. Late Dr. Sanjeeva Dev’s paintings
donated by his family will also be re-located from his village to SVK
Culture wing at Gachibowli.

Sundarayya Vignana Kendram has been involved in various not-for-profit
causes including book restoration. We have undertaken one of its kind
restoration projects in the world with the help of the Thermal Vacuum
Freeze Dryer to restore more than 150,000 flood damaged books and
manuscripts. With our experience we can help organizations (both
commercial and non-commercial) restore and preserve valuable
printed materials and cultural artifacts that are endangered. The SVK
has also been awarded grants under the Endangered Program of the
British Library, London, for repair, restoration, digitalization and
microfilming of pre-1947 Telugu print culture in India. Help us save your books, manuscripts and materials of
